Include your myshopify.com domain and the name of the test you are asking about. That is usually enough for us to reproduce what you are seeing.
Setting up your first test
- In your theme, duplicate the template you want to test and give the copy a suffix, for example templates/index.appal-b.json. Edit the copy so it holds your B version.
- In Appal, choose New test, pick that template, name your versions and set the split.
- Turn on the Appal app embed in Theme editor, App embeds. Nothing is served to shoppers until that is on and the test is started.
Common questions
Does it slow the store down? The runtime is a small script served from Shopify's CDN through the theme app extension. Versions are real Shopify templates, so pages render server-side as normal and there is no flicker from client-side rewriting.
Why does a test show no data yet? Visitors are counted on the second page load after assignment, and orders are counted when Shopify sends the order webhook. Give it a few minutes and check that the app embed is enabled.
How do I end a test? Open the test and choose the winning version. Appal stops splitting traffic and tells you which template to keep. Your theme is never changed without you doing it.
What does it cost? Nothing. Appal is free, with no paid tier and no usage charges.
Reporting a bug
Send the store domain, the test name, the page URL, whether it was mobile or desktop, and a screenshot if you have one. If it is urgent, say so in the subject line and we will pick it up first.
